Medad Tavern - Cultural Center & Museum Guilford CT

Our family business started in1985 by Jill Platt was first known as Finishing Touches. In 1987 Jill attended the US School for Professional Paperhangers and Faux Art in Rutlin, VT. In 2001, the company name was changed to JPlatt & Co. when our son Jon joined the business. Jon studied advanced designer wall finishes at Martin Allen Hirsh's Decorative Finishes Studio in Louisville, KY.

Subsequently, Jill's husband, Ed [retired from his "real job" of 34 years] and was lured into the bright lights of faux fame when he helped on a revealed brick project for the First & Last Tavern in Guilford CT. Ed also learned Venetian Plaster, Gemstones, Stuccos finishes, elephant hide, leather, and Egyptian wall applications at the Decorative Finishes Studio in Louisville.

In Jan 2008 Jill also made it to the studio in Louisville, attending a workshop on old world cabinet finishes. This was followed up with a course in Feb 2008 on reactive finishes [We're really excited about these amazing new walls!]

Additionally, we are associated with another Guilford artist, Leslie Ann Powers [pictured on right] who, along with Martin Allen Hirsh, is published in the book "Sophisticated Surfaces", a collection of works completed by the most accomplished professionals in the country. Leslie Ann designs stencils and guides us through many of our larger projects. We are fortunate to have the skills needed to work alongshide this master artist.
